Press acclaim for Genesis LAMDA Scholar Sam Swann
Monday, 6 January 2014
Genesis LAMDA Scholar Sam Swann has received a wealth of praise from the national critics for his role as Peter in Peter Pan and Wendy with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Sam plays the boy who never grows up, Peter Pan, in a spectacular new adaptation by Ella Hickson, directed by Jonathan Munby. Sam last appeared with the RSC in David Greig’s Dunsinane and other credits include The Kitchen at the National Theatre and TV’s Vicious and Bitchcraft.
Evening Standard *****
‘I strongly suggest that this delightful show takes the second star to the right and keeps straight on ‘til the West End.’
‘This is a gripping account of a ripping yarn – and anyone who says otherwise should be made to walk the plank.’
‘The great achievement of Jonathan Munby’s production is to bring back some edge to these Edwardian antics — including entirely uncuddly pirates, a genuine sense of rough-and-tumble, a Peter who is unthinkingly callous as well as hearteningly heroic — while still providing a rousing spectacular for ages 7 and up.’
Birmingham Mail *****
‘A soar-away success.’
What’s On Stage: *****
‘I laughed, I gasped, I cried – it is wonderful to be transported so completely by a piece of theatre. I hope that this production gets a life beyond the end of this run. It has the potential to enthral audiences for many years to come.’
