Dominic Muldowney’s VOX – composing for voice has progressed with further sessions in December 2007 and February 2008.
OperaGenesis and all the people who attended the courses are delighted with the work and with the progress made by a talented and eclectic group of composers, ranging from theatre practitioners (eg Helen Porter) to electronic sound designers (eg Daniel Bjarnsson) to Harvard post-graduates (eg Sasha Siem).
The next sessions are in May 2008, and the composers will be working with the acclaimed theatre director Di Trevis (National Theatre) on translating their work to the stage.
Dominic has also invited the group to contribute their work to a festival that he is curating for the London Sinfonietta and The Guardian in January 2009.
This course has proved so popular and successful that OperaGenesis is aiming to make it a recurring feature: it allows young composers to gain invaluable professional experience of writing for the voice and of working with singers of all kinds, and it also allows OperaGenesis to see the composers in action which enables everyone to assess who might benefit from the workshop experience of an OperaGenesis project.
OperaGenesis is constantly working at assembling a ‘long list’ of potential candidates for the next course or the one after that – suggestions welcome!
