After a hugely successful run in Barcelona, the re-cast Young Vic/ATC production of The Brothers Size returned for a second run of performance at the Young Vic in London as well as embarking on a tour. Written by a young American, Tarell Alvin McCraney, the play was performed in conjunction with another McCraney play. The second play, In the Red and Brown Water, played concurrently with the first at the Young Vic. The Brothers Size was nominated for several awards in its original run. Genesis visited a run-through in July 2008 and interviewed the author as well as the director of this UK production. Director Bijan Sheibani was a participant in the Genesis Directors programme at the Young Vic before becoming Artistic Director of ATC. The two Brothers Size are Ogun, who owns an auto repair shop, and his younger brother Oshoosi, fresh out of prison. When Oshoosi’s ex-cell mate Elegba turns up, you can sense that trouble is headed their way like an express train. A play that is comic, lyric, passionate and completely surprising, it should not be missed when it is revived in autumn 2009. It is suitable for ages 14+.
