Paul Frehner, Composer (Canadian)

Paul FrehnerPaul Frehner is currently enrolled in a course studying for a doctorate in music composition at McGill University, Montreal, after completing his MA and bachelor's degrees at the same institution. He has taught at Marianopolis College and McGill University. In 2001 he was awarded a $26.666 FCAR scholarship (Fonds pour la formation de Chercheurs et l'Aide à la Recherche) for the furtherance of his research.

In 1999 he came first in the "Jeunesse Musicales World Orchestra International Young Composers Competition" for Overture 2000. It received its world premiere by the orchestra on 1 January 2000 at the Berlin Konzerthaus.

Another work for large orchestra (Elixirs) won first place in the "Symphony of the Third Millenium" competition. It received its premiere on 1 January 2001 by the Prague Philharmonic at the Dvorak Concert Hall, Prague.

In addition to his studies and work as a freelance composer he holds several choral directing posts in Montreal.

 

Angela Murphy, Librettist (Canadian)

Angela MurphyAngela Murphy is an actress and writer living and working in Montreal. She completed the Dawson College Professional Theatre Program in 1999. Recent appearances include The Singer (Towards Valinor) for Elysian River Theatre and Alice (Alice in Wonderland) for Tricycle Productions.

Her writings include the poetry collections Strange Boy, Overture and Twenty words or less; the prose works Addiction supposes and category: love; and a dialogue for the stage, Conversation with Cupid.
