'O Guiding Night - Music inspired by the Spanish mystics - Performed by The Sixteen on June 14

Wednesday, 25 May 2011

In June 2008, at Westminster Cathedral, The Sixteen and Harry Christophers gave premieres of three works commissioned by the Genesis Foundation, all settings of Padre Pio’s prayer Stay with Me, Lord.

Now, three years later, on June 14 in the more intimate neighbourhood setting of St James’s Church, Spanish Place, The Sixteen will be performing a concert of new Genesis Foundation commissions from notable British composers of the younger generation: Ruth Byrchmore, Tarik O'Regan and Roderick Williams.   This time, the inspiration is the writings of the Spanish mystics St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross, both figures of great intellectual rigour and spiritual power.  These commissions will be performed alongside music by Spain's greatest Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria, marking the 400th anniversary of his death (1548-1611).

All tickets have now been allocated and we are no longer accepting applications.
