Netzzeit Libretto Competition

Wednesday, 21 May 2008

The international opera libretto-writing competition in which OperaGenesis has been closely involved over the last eighteen months was extremely successful, with over 130 entries.

Full details of the progress of the competition, the judging (where the panel included John Lloyd Davies) and the results are on the website: http://www.operalibretto.org, which also has an English language section.

As well as a very promising winner, with whom Misato Mochizuki has already begun work, this competition has unearthed several interesting writers to keep in touch with for the future.

In March 2008, composer Misato Mochizuki (Japan), writer Yohanan Kaldi (Israel), director Michael Scheidl (Austria) and dramaturges John Lloyd Davies (ROH) and Caroline Weber (Theater Luzern) met at ROH month to work on the final draft of the libretto.

The world premiere of this OperaGenesis-supported opera is set for 24th January 2009 at Theater Luzern, Switzerland, with further performances already planned for Linz and Vienna.
