The Genesis Foundation is proud to bring composer Will Todd’s new anthem for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to disc in a new recording on Signum Classics.
The CD, released on 4 June 2012, includes the premiere recording of 'The Call of Wisdom' performed by award-winning choir, Tenebrae, and the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Nigel Short.
The Call of Wisdom, commissioned by St Paul’s Cathedral, will be performed in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen during the Diamond Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving on 5 June 2012 by the Diamond Choir, a specially formed choir of 10-13 year olds from across the UK. Thanks to the Genesis Foundation, which Todd credits for “inspiring and nurturing” his work, this landmark piece will have a recorded legacy.
The Genesis Foundation has twice commissioned Todd to create new work, the critically-acclaimed ‘Among Angels’ (2006) and ‘Stay with me, Lord’ (2008), both of which feature on this compilation in new recordings alongside other key choral works by Todd.
Will Todd says: “My friendship and collaboration with John Studzinski and the Genesis Foundation has been inspiring and nurturing. I have been extremely fortunate to have been championed and consistently supported by such a perceptive individual and organisation. Artists need support for their voices to be heard and I am grateful and humbled by the opportunities Genesis has offered me”.
John Studzinski, Founder and Chairman of the Genesis Foundation, says:
“Everyone at the Genesis Foundation is thrilled that Will has received this commission for the Queen’s Jubilee. Our support for Will’s wonderful talent goes back nearly 12 years and was the foundation’s first commission. Supporting, mentoring and nurturing young artistic talent to reach its potential, like Will’s, is precisely why the Genesis Foundation exists. We all send him our most heartfelt congratulations.”
