Seven young directors from the innovative Genesis Directors Project at the Young Vic have returned recently from the Maly Theatre in St Petersburg where they spent two weeks training with acclaimed Russian director Lev Dodin.
This new initiative for the Genesis Directors Project called “Wilson Brothers” consists of emerging young directors chosen to train and work within the Young Vic for a year. The name of the scheme is taken from the old butchers’ shop sign still above the entrance to the theatre. The original shop forms the architectural core of the new Young Vic theatre building. Like the theatre itself today, this shop was once a central meeting place for the whole community. The visit to St Petersburg was hugely inspiring and thought-provoking for everyone involved.
