Genesis Directors study in St. Petersburg

Seven young directors from the innovative Genesis Directors Project at the Young Vic have returned recently from the Maly Theatre in St Petersburg where they spent two weeks training with acclaimed Russian director Lev Dodin.

This new initiative for the Genesis Directors Project called “Wilson Brothers” consists of emerging young directors chosen to train and work within the Young Vic for a year. The name of the scheme is taken from the old butchers’ shop sign still above the entrance to the theatre. The original shop forms the architectural core of the new Young Vic theatre building. Like the theatre itself today, this shop was once a central meeting place for the whole community. The visit to St Petersburg was hugely inspiring and thought-provoking for everyone involved.

An Update on LAMDA Genesis Foundation Scholars Thursday, 19 August 2010

Paul Tinto (class of 2010) is currently understudying in the critically acclaimed Black Watch at the Barbican Theatre which will run from 27th November 2010 to 22nd January 2011. Meanwhile, Tom Riley (class of 2005) will soon be appearing in the ITV1 drama A Bouquet of Barbed Wire alongside Trevor Eve and fellow LAMDA alumnus, Hermione Norris.
