The Young Vic Theatre officially re-opened its doors to the public on 11 October with a short run (11 October - 21 October) of Jonathan Dove's uplifting community opera, Tobias and the Angel. In April the varied season moves on to presenting four short early play by Bertold Brecht in the new theatre spaces, the Maria and the Clare.
The first double bill in the Big Brecht Fest, from 29 March to 14 April, will be A Respectable Wedding in a new translation by Rory Bremner, directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins; and The Jewish Wife, translated by Martin Crimp and directed by Katie Mitchell.
From 20 April to 5 May the double bill will be two Direct Action productions: Senora Carrar’s Rifles (translated by Biyi Bandele) and How Much is Your Iron? (translated by Enda Walsh). Direct Action productions grow from the work of the Genesis Foundation with the Young Vic and allows directors to work more ambitiously than they have before - on a larger scale, for a bigger audience, with larger casts and more rehearsal. The Young Vic partners directors with more experienced designers and theatre practitioners for these productions. There have been 18 Direct Action productions so far.
