On 8 July, the Royal Court Theatre kick started its annual International Residency for Emerging Playwrights with a cream tea. This year, nine international playwrights will spend three and a half weeks working on new plays with the Royal Court Theatre team and a dedicated group of British theatre artists. The writers come from the Czech Republic, Denmark, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine. This is the 22nd International Residency to take place at the Royal Court, a programme that forms the launch pad for much of the work of the International Department, which is supported by the Genesis Foundation. The writers were joined by the Royal Court team and a wide selection of the UK’s leading playwrights and theatre directors who will be working with them this year. The International Residency is supported by the Genesis Foundation and the British Council.
